Wow, when we were there only 4 years ago, it was only $5 to play with the red pandas and $50 to feed and get your picture taken with the giant pandas... still the cutest thing ever though.

Have you gotten used to the perpetual use of car horns as a driving strategy yet? It's hilarious. :)

So far we’ve seen: ham, shrimp, some kind of fruit that *may* have been pineapple, and cheese. They’re a bit pricey for China though, around 50 RMB… Though now that I think about it, that’s only $7.50.

Yeah, I was always surprised at the number of Starbucks I saw there. Once, I saw a man dressed as Popeye (for the chicken and biscuits chain in the U.S.) in Beijing. Tell me what they're putting on their pizza nowadays since cheese is a challenge to get.

1. Glad to see the artists are still bothering tourists. It must work. :)
2. That's the rip off fee. You ARE paying for the ceremony.
3. Have you had any fried eyelids or something like that yet? :P

Keep up the posts. I'm feeling nostalgic right now...

Ahhh...tea. It's how you know you've gotten out of the west, that's for sure. $4.5 for the first cup of tea, and higher after that? Geez, that's nuts. I thought things were supposed to be cheaper in China. A cup of tea here in Amman, bought from a street vendor, is about 50 cents USD. Maybe you're paying for the ceremony.

Or, perhaps I misread that, and that's only the rip-off fee anyway. What's the usual price for a bit of tea away from the tourist sites?

Believe it or not, there's actually one down by Tian'anmen. I love how when you travel internationally people always tell you where you are. It's kind of like a combination "see how civilized we are" and "we know that's where you white people hang out" thing.
